The Alchemist By Panlo Coelho

A fable about following your dream

There are four obstacles in life that we need to overcome.

1. From childhood we've been told that everything we want to do is impossible and we grow up assuming the worst. Once we get the courage to pursue our dreams we come across the second obstacle

2. Love - we are afraid to hurt the ones we love and will not abandon everything to pursue our dreams. But what's important is to understand that the ones we love, loves us in return and will want us to do what we love.
Once we understand this, we come across the 3rd obstacle

3. Fear of the defeats and constantly doubting that you will fail. We need to be patient in difficult times and constantly remind ourselves of the ultimate personal desires and fight for it.
We also need to understand that when we fight for our dreams, we will keep on failing but the secret is that when we fall seven times we need to get up eight times. It is important to go through this cycle/ experience as it helps to build the confidence and we start to live with enthusiasm and pleasure.
Once we come through all these facets of life to pursue our dreams, we come across our fourth obstacle

4. The fear of realising the dream for which we have been fighting all our lives. In this stage we even forget all the obstacles we have passed, all the suffering endured and all the things that we had to give up. But if we believe that we are worthy of the things we fought through, then it's simply worth it !

Destiny - it's true that when we are young, we know exactly what we want to do and want from life. But as we grow up, we keep on doubting ourselves to the point where we think it will only be a dream.. But this feeling is what we need to embrace positively and work through the distractions in the surrounding we live in, to reach what we want.

Another life lesson is that we should never offer something we don't even have yet. Because this indirectly fuels us to forget what we want to achieve in life.. And be misguided.

Meaningful extracts..

"When you want something, all the universe conspires to help you achieve it"

"Intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life, where the histories of all people are connected, and we are able to know everything, because it's all written there"

"Don't live in either the past or future. We should be interested only in the present. Then you will be happy Cz you start appreciating what you have now. Life will be a party, a grand festival, because life is the moment we are living right now. "

"Where ever your heart is, that is where you will find your treasure and we need to keep listening to it. By listening to what it has to say, you'll never have to fear an unanticipated blow"

What it means to me..
Need to listen to our heart and always believe in ourselves because someday, we will be able to reach our dreams and surpass our inner goals..

There will always be negative influences - negative thoughts would be one and negative feedback from the ones we love and the usual discouraging remarks will act as barriers to reach our goals..

But the trick is to make use of the criticism for our own good and continue on our journey to realising our dreams/ goals/ ambitions.

This could be applied in our work/ career path, our personal life and any other life choice taken.. We should live our life the way our heart wants it to! and should not be influenced by others who do not know your destiny in life!

The little Price by Antoine De Saint Exupery

What the book "The Little Prince" taught me...

Grown ups value numbers / results rather than experiences/ relationships and this has been carved into us by "grow ups" through out our childhood.

Our passionate hobbies we try to build on when we are kids, like art, is discouraged as it does not seem important when compared to things that would help us to bank a good career!

"All grown ups were once children although few of them remember it"....

What we could take out of this is, don't be afraid to think without numbers/ results as this will bring you a sense of accomplishment/ self believe and eternal happiness. When we are only focused on things that improve our wealth, this will limit our ability to reach greater heights in life and do meaningful things that brings you and the others around you joy!
